• EMTP Renewable energy online training

Renewable Energy: Grid Integration Studies - Online

The objective of this training is to present a short course on renewable source integration studies.

This course covers the following topics:

Day 1

  • Get started with EMTP®

    • Theoretical backgrounds on Power Systems and Transients, analysis methods

    • Numerical methods for the simulation of transients

    • Load-Flow, Frequency Scan and Time-Domain

    • Machines, lines, transformer modeling

Day 2

  • Wind-park and Photovoltaic parc modeling in EMT-type tools

    • WECC representation

    • Grid-Forming converter

Day 3

  • Renewable Energy Integration Studies

    • Load-Flow and Steady-State

    • Reference step-changes

    • Power support

    • LVRT/HVRT assessment

    • Transient Immunity assessment

    • Faults

Day 4

  • Harmonic analysis

  • Transformer energization

  • Temporary overvoltages

  • Sub-synchronous Control Interaction (SSCI)

EMTP® is used for all simulations and illustration examples.

Practical test cases are provided to illustrate the various concepts.

This course is intended for engineers, researchers, operators and maintenance personnel using simulation software in general. It provides up-to-date technical expertise on renewable energy integration projects.

Training structure

The duration is 4 days: April 17-20, 2023

The training starts at 10:00 am to 12:30 pm (EDT) every day.

Computer and temporary EMTP license

Each participant will have to bring a personal computer. EMTP® temporary licenses will be provided for the duration of the course.

Henry is the director of the EMTP Alliance. He oversees engineering, development and sales activities.

He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnique Montreal and a bachelor’s degree from Ecole Centrale de Lyon.

He is specialized in transients in power systems, protections, control and microgrids and conducts trainings and webinars on these topics.
