Microgrid simulation and analysis

Microgrid simulation and analysis

Training objectives

The objectives of the course are to know how to simulate a microgrid network in a time-domain software and to identify and solve challenges regarding stability and islanding detection.

Training structure

The training is presented in English.

Audience

They could be users of the software but also people who would like to discover how useful simulation can be for them.

  • Professionals from Power Transmission

  • Distribution and Production companies

  • Professional engineers

  • Consultants

  • Post-graduated students

  • People interested in electromagnetic transient studies

Computer and temporary EMTP license

Each participant will have to bring a personal computer. EMTP temporary licenses will be provided for the duration of the course.

Program

Day 1: Some Microgrid examples developed in EMTP

  • EMTP Get Started

  • Inverter modelling

  • Load-Flow with Distributed Generation main simulation of DG

Day 2

  • Modeling of microgrids in abc-, alpha-beta-, and dq-frame

  • Harmonics and negative-sequence in different reference frames

  • Islanding detection based on negative-sequence current injection (This is a new approach based on MIMO control)

  • Control of electronically-interfaced DG units in grid-connected mode control. This includes DG interfaced by L-filter and LCL filter, under balanced and unbalanced grid conditions, using high performance control techniques.

  • Line and cable

Day 3

  • Stability analysis of microgrids with parametric uncertainties

  • Kharitonov’s theorem, Polytope of polynomials, the Mapping theorem, (if time permits Guardian Map)

  • Control of microgrids in islanded modes, and stability analysis of such systems using the theorems explained

  • Line and cable
