As part of the grid interconnection process, Generation Owners and Transmission Owners (GOs/TOs) need to assess the compliance and adequacy of their EMT models. During these tests, the grid is usually represented by a simple Thevenin equivalent, enabling the evaluation of the model's behavior in a limited set of scenarios and operational conditions.
Leveraging the development of the EMT Connection Tool which started with the Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional (Chilean ISO), EMTP® is proud to announce a new collaborative project with Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE), the French transmission system operator. Building on the expertise and the technological advancements from our work in Chile, we aim to create a similar EMT Connection Tool that will serve the needs of the French electric system.

As technology advances, new challenges arise for power systems engineers in terms of EMT modeling and simulation. A good example is the HVDC transmission system under construction between France and Ireland. The French and Irish transmission system operators (RTE and EirGrid) have been working together to build this 575km length, 700MW HVDC link to connect the two countries.

In EMTP® version 4.4, we have updated our licensing system. We are moving to a cloud-based licensing, which means we no longer support licenses based on files and hardware (i.e USB Keys and Network Servers). While you can still use these in older versions of EMTP®, please note that we cannot provide support for them. For example, we cannot create new licenses or replace dongle keys.
